Releford scores 12 in U.S. loss

Posted Saturday, July 19, 2008

— Host Argentina defeated the United States, 77-64, on Friday night in the finals of the FIBA Americas Under 18 championships.

Kansas University freshman guard Travis Releford scored 12 points off 5-of-8 shooting — he made two of four free throws — while starting and playing 31 minutes.

Releford, who attended Bishop Miege High in Roeland Park, also had two rebounds and a steal. Kemba Walker led the U.S. with 21 points.

The U.S., Argentina, Canada and Puerto Rico have qualified for the FIBA U19 World Championship, July 2-12, 2009, in New Zealand.

Another routine beat down by the USA given by Argentina. This is a country where almost no one plays basketball, althought he stores are starting to stock some basketballs and NBA Stuff. Country of 40 million eith a crippling economoy and 35-30% inflation. Ihave been in stores and their is no meat, poultry, pork or bread at times for days.

They field a NAtional that practices on and of all year team and the USA fields some All-Stars that practiced for one week together. Results show as the Argies routed the USA team and beat them pretty badly (again)!

FlaHawk, That's the deal, the U.S. is the home of basketball, and where Mr. Releford will be playing is the place where it was perfected.

Give Bill Self some of the best athletes in Argentina, or any coach who knows the game a few months and it would be a competitive team. Hopefully more countries like Argentina can field a team in basketball, because I personally like the country diversity in baseball.

Baseball and Basketball have a chance to catch on and become major world sports... There is even a chance they could become bigger than soccer... that's right, soccer, not football.

Soccer=tough cross country runners that aren't fast enough. That's right, I said it.

Don't cry for three, Argentina...

Hey, why don't we recruit the Argies, if they are good enough to hold Releford to 12 and kick the USA's ass? Sounds like they can defend.
