Football closing talent gap

There are a lot of local, Kansas kids who get overlooked because the KSHAA doesn't allow spring football practices and the quality of high school coaching in Kansas is inconsistent at best.

Football closing talent gap

Unfortunately, the "escalation" in the talent level is coming at the expense of Kansas kids. Only two of the some 20 odd commitments thus far are from Kansas. While I understand the necessity for recruiting in Texas and Oklahoma, it's really fun for me to watch the Jake Sharp and Kerry Meier do well as opposed to an anonymous kid from another state.

Jayhawks searching for identity

Collins is a shooter. He doesn't play defense and the word "assist" is probably not in his vocaublary, unless it's in the open floor. The Jayhawks' rebounding problems are the same as they were against K-State last season at Manhattan. Only one or two or maybe three guys can or will block out on each possession. Unless the perimeter players and the other big man beside Cole Aldrich block out on each shot by the opposition, it allows an extra player on the glass for the other side. And he has a free shot at the ball.

This team has a lot of ability, but it desperately needs a point guard to control the pace of the game, play defense and dictate the fluidity of the offense. Otherwise, they will look the way they did in the second half against Arizona. I would be willing to bet Coach Self, if asked which player he would bring back from last year's team if he had a choice, would say Mario Chalmers.

Jayhawks searching for identity

Searching for identity? In fact, the Jayhawks are searching for a point guard who can distribute, defend and lead.

Jayhawks return to practice in good spirits after break

Hey, Coach,

If Tyrone Appleton knows how to block out and guard, perhaps you should consider inserting him in the rotation.

Holiday smear

Sing along fellas: To the melody of "Get Back" by the Beatles,

If you simply jog back on defense
Good teams will clean your clock
When the other team drives to the basket
Don't merely watch and nod
Block out! Block out!
Block out if you want to win.
Block out! Block out!
Block out if you want to win.

Blown away

Why doesn't the paper imbed the link to the box score with the story?

Assistant coach returning to KSU

Anybody named "Joe Bob" probably belongs at K-State anyway.

Aldrich awes Kent State coach

Cole has improved, true. But he was basically the same player last season. He just didn't get a chance to play.
